Hi Luke,
I just love your site. It is fun to look at and I visit it often to play my guitar along with your Dad when he sings.
I do have a question on the jam sessions. Do the emails have to go through you or are they sent directly to the person that you are emailing. I’m trying to get together in a jam session and it is taking quite a bit of courage since I guess I don’t feel adequate enough at the present time to do a good job. I’m currently reading music and am depending on your books etc to know when to change chords etc. I haven’t mastered playing by ear, yet. Just wondering how this works.
Thanks for the music,
Joyce
Hi Joyce! Glad you like the site!
I’m assuming you’re talking about the “Send _____ a Message” links on people’s profiles. These are sent straight to the recipient, we don’t see them. Our website simply relays the message… that way we can avoid displaying email addresses on public profiles (which would be a privacy issue).
Keep in mind the quote at the bottom of our web site. You won’t “master” playing by ear until you start playing with other people! (That said, I assume you have our Get Started book? Or a recent edition of Family Tradition?)
I encourage you to get out there and find others to play with! No doubt there are others near you at a similar skill level. A quick look in the JamPool shows three other members who fit that description. One of them even wrote a bulletin board post inviting folks to come and play! Don’t be shy… folks are on the JamPool because they want to be contacted. The only people who get into trouble are the folks who think they’re way better than they really are. Doesn’t sound like you have that problem, though.
Good luck!
Luke
p.s. – “How to Jam” videos are in the pipeline… but please don’t wait for them before jumping into the jam! (Could be months from now.)
