Drunkard's Hell

It was on one dark and starless night
I heard and saw an awful sight
The lightning flashed, the thunder roared
All around this drunkard's feet

I started home to change my life
To see my long neglected wife
I found her kneeling by her bed
She said our darling baby was dead

I told her not to cry and weep
Because our babe had went to sleep
Its precious soul had fled away
To live with Christ in endless day

I took her by her trembling hand
She was so weak she could not stand
On bended knees I prayed a prayer
That God might save and protect us there

Who preach like Paul who once did say
Our sins have all been washed away
Let whiskey stay as far from me
As the mountain is from the deep blue sea
