The ToneWay® Project: helping people play music

song lyrics

Hi fellow musicians, I'm back again looking for words to a song I heard years ago in San Diego. I had the lyrics, but lost them. The name of the song I think is the opossum song. The chorus goes something like this, Mama's not dead she's just playing 'possum' her soul is at rest in her old rocking chair. She's found a new way to get some attention, mamaa's not dead she's just playin' possum. been looking for a while, hope someone out there can help.PS. has anyone heard a tune called the cowboy and the saint? Thanks again, Jody.

V 1
last night mamma called us close to her bedside
She said she was tired of worry and grief
She said she would soon be called up to heaven
Then closing her eyes she went fast asleep
V2
WE stayed up all night but mamma kept breathing
We stood by her bed with tears in our eyes
Its hard to be sad when mamma didn't die
V3
When mamma came down with gall bladder trouble
She thought she heard angels in her hospital room
It was only the nurse on the intercom system
Checking to see if her bedpan was full
